How does no thermostat make it overheat? It just leaves the rad open all the time, so it will take ages to warm up, but this will make it harder for it to overheat. Yes it would use more fuel though.

The thermostat is at the entrance to the radiator, and opens gradually at once the engine is up to temperature, so it keeps the radiator closed when the engine is cold so it heats up quicker, then once up to temp opens to keep the temperature down.

mine sits about 87 with a 1.4 8v rad on and a cool running stat. fan cuts in at about 98.

nope hotter, it makes a big diff, annnnnnnnnnnnd it can make the ecu run on the "warm-up" map longer... soo hence hotter also, but yeh it can effect running temp alot!

Whats the normal running temp for these, and what rad should i be using, currently im using the 1.2 rad with gsi header tank(2inlets at top) and it runs very hot and it even blew a few water hoses

thought about getting a diesel rad or out of a combo van as these look thicker

can anyone shed any light on this or is there somethin seriously wrong?

Cheers

:)
