Probably wd40 or other shit burning on the manifold. See if it goes away.

i know when i have the lead off the battery for a while in my 8V whne ya start it up it wont stay started unless u hold it at idle with yer foot/hand.

Thats the ECU resetting?

ta peeps
ive got oil and filter ready to go on.
smoke off the manifilold i might leave it till i get a performance manifold.

as for it cutting out. could it be that its been standing for ages? and needs to be driven?

mine always taps when it needs oil change, so far thats always cured it :thumbs: as for other Q's i dont have a clue

the alternator wont affect it dude,as Drew said it will only cause a problem before the engines started up.

The only way imo that the alternaor cud be the problem is if it cuts out then wont start back up at all cos theres no power.

tappets are a common problem, not sure about 16valvers but i've heard quite a few tapperty 8 valve engines, happened on mine also.

using thicker oil i've heard helps as its an hydraulic system.

also had smoke coming from my naifold when i did the head gasket. had to replace the exhaust manifold gasket

it cut out a couple of times by itself.
could this be because i have a 50amp 8v alternator on it? i have the 70amp 16v one so ill fit that and see.

and it sounds tappety :S so could this be because its been standing for ages?
will changing the oil cure it? i have vaux oil here so it should i hope


also there is smoke coming off the manifold? i may have got wd40 on it but it may also be leaking what you rekon ?
