Me and a mate have got a buggy on the drawing boards using the engine + drivetrain from the reliant robin and front suspension/stearing from a mini. The engine is same as fitted in a mini, 850cc 40Bhp and only 50Kg,s the entire car should weigh bout 150Kg's which means a power to weight ratio of 266bhp/ton, with a person in its still 175bhp/ton and thats runing a standard engine. A VX2200 Turbo is bout 250bhp/ton :). If it gets off the ground it should be fun.

Probably better off with a bike engine, car engines are way too bulky for a 1 man kart.

Will have to see, main problem is carriage charges as no other means of transport :(

gona have a few words with a m8, as he was looking into something like this too & can get alu-box tubes to make a chassis & frame for next-to-nothin!

I might be converting mine to a 1.4 soon, will have a 1.2 8v going spare if you want it ;) for that Kart

my bad, couldnt remember either 200 or 250!

yeah scrapped mine, it was a bit feked! Gearbox was only thing worth keepin from it (wasn't broke) and the alternator & starter went to adam as they were still ok aswell!

still have the ECU & enine loom tho, duno why I kept them :look:

I was debating making adam an offer on his old engine & have a mad blast at making some mental-powered go-kart, but tbh don't think I can be arsed  I really need to get some work done on my corsa!

Havce a word with Adam-D off here, he's got his old 1.4 8v engine with all bitties for sale for around £250 i think, not much of an increase in performance, but should keep insurance down and be quite cheap & easy enough to swap over!

What did you pay £250 for?

adjust the throttle backstop screw. You'll need a small torx bit and need to take the inlet off but its all just torx and real easy. Cured my low revs - mine kept dropping EVERY time i'd come off the gas and go so low that it nearly stalled!

what's the millage on your current engine?

prob just a dodgy ICV or something i dunno :|?

i'd be looking at somewhere in the region of £500 for a 1.2 engine thats down around 50k... that includes fitting.

i have almost had enough of my bloody car...!

i've had it about 2 months and i wanna torch it lol!

took it to a service centre and they just charged me £250
to put right what they could but its still fooked!

wasn't too bad but the rev counter keeps going down, then it stalls
this happened when i was doing 20 mph coming to the lights and it just dies

its a 1.0 T-reg and it did have a crash some time before i got it
i think its damaged the engine but i can't really say cos i dunno

should i just bung a new engine in it? what would fit in it?

i'm 19 and my insurance is already £1300 on a 1.0 so i'm guessing
that a 2.0 might not be the best idea for insurance?

maybe a 1.2 or a 1.4?

what sort of price might i be expecting?

J
