My head is in a right state, I mean the cars of course !
Inlet valve at Vauxhall dealer is £33
Head gasket set £57 not including valve seals
Valve seals £1.60
To have the head washed out, valve and seals
replaced and inlet valve damaged seat re- cut £50
Plus my camshaft is badly worn !
Complete engine from a breakers yard is £100
I took the rocker cover off to look at the cam,
nice and clean, golden brown colour with no cam
wear. The £100 includes them removing it so I'm
fetching it Monday.
I dread to think how much the hydraulic lifters are
at the dealers, risk the second hand one !
Thanks for the comments guys
I had toyed with the idea of fitting a 1.4 into
the car one of you kindly offered, trouble is the
insurance company went ballistic quoting
" modified car ", premiums were zooming up.

Regards to all

a leaky rocker cover will do nothing except leak out of the engine, wont cause smoking at all.

As for earlier coments about getting another head from a scrappy, whats the point? it might be worse than yours!!

If you have got the head off, buy a head set, it'll be no more than £30, it has valve stem seals etc in there, the tappets work out about £5 each, do the job write first time and you will have a sweet engine DO NOT BUY A HEAD FROM SCRAPPY

my plugs are oily on my gsi , n my car burns lot of oil!!!!!!!!!

had my rocker cover gasket done, but that only stopped the oil leaks i had, it still burned oil!!

think my valve stem seals, piston rings or even the pistons may need changing, or even worse the whole lot!!!! lol

im better of getting new engine fitted probly work out cheaper!

Turned out to be a burned out inlet valve !
I had it compression tested just on the " oiled " cylinder
result : no compression !
Whipped the 'ead of earlier tonight and found the burnt
inlet valve.
I guess the valve seals aren't too good either
hence the oil seeping down the stem through the gap
in the valve seating and onto the piston.
Has anyone bought any inlet valves recently ?
If so, I wonder how much they are ?
Also, maybe a good time to do the hydraulic tappets,
again any one got a price for these please ?

Doubt its the head gasket, probably something in the head. Dunno, actually.

" The Gasket " do you mean the head gasket ?
If that engine was a 1.2 then I would be interested
How many miles and whereabouts are you in Cheshire ?

Hi, the 1.2 8valve Corsa has been running rough today.
No3 plug is contaminated with engine oil, hence this
cylinder is not firing.
Changed the plug, and the same happened again.
Removed the HT lead and connected another plug
and it sparks absolutely fine.
Loads of oil getting into the cylinder from somewhere
stopping the plug from sparking.
Hydraulic tappets have been rattling from cold
for quite a while and the engines done 88,000
The engine has been consuming quite a bit of
oil, so what do you reckon it is then ?
Valve seals or Oil control rings on the piston
or infact both. Any experience of this on a Corsa
1.2 ?
Be pleased to hear your comments.
