decided not to bother after seeing it, ive doubled my budget and im looking at the 8600, 9400 or 9600. just dont know whether im being silly spending so much

I've got an 8400 and found it to be much better then my old 7400 in terms of sound quality and looks. Defo wouldn't buy a Sony unit now that I have heard both Pioneer and Alpine.

im seriosly considering the Sony cdx-f7700, it has 4-volt pre-outs and is a move up from the 7500. does anybody have a really good reason why i shouldnt, i was gonna get the pioneer 8400, but thought i could save some money and get some better components, my last unit was the pioneer 7400 and i got bored of that.
