bollox he obviously couldn't drive a 1.416v corsa would piss on an 8v simple as the 8v engine was quick in the nova but in the heavier corsa was poo

Very true, but you dont want to be reving to 4,000rpm every time you take off either, you'd have no clutch left:lol: I had a race with a 16v SRi not so long back, saw it at a cruise before we raced on the road, he had same mods as me, upto 70mph I lost him very easily, he caught up when I got stuck in traffic, took it up to 110mph (on private roads of course) And from 70mph we were neck a neck, not impressed myself, seems Vauxhall did to good a job of restricting the power with the long intake, granted when the expensive mods are done the 16v will leave me behind tho:P

There was a 1.4 8v Corsa SRi (C14SE) with a Courtenay turbo conversion in Total Vauxhall a while ago, he had lots of mods done already but when TV drove it they thought it was quicker than a 2.0 valver, they estimated around 150bhp, the standard conversion good for around 115-120bhp, You should also gain for handling as the turbo'ed 1.4 should not way as much as a valver, and with it being the 8v it has the low down torque to get you of the line quicker untill the turbo cuts in, I have the C14SE in my Corsa and its much quicker than any 1.4 16v of the equivelant spec of the line up untill 50mph at least, before you lot rubish my veiw have you ever compared a 8v MPI Corsa and 16v side by side, I have and unless you tune it with powerboxs, etc the 8v will walk it!

quote: No it wouldn't. Would need a very serious spec to be quicker than a tb'd one.

I cant see why the 8v would be any more robust. Parts aren't really all that much more expensive, 16v is much better for power.

Well I have a 1.6 8v in a corsa and I don't know weather to have a 2.0 16 or to turbo mine

the 8v is gonna stand up to more abuse than the 16v, simply because it is a simpler design and you are gonna have less problems, and there will probably be quite a few teething problems.

If you want more power go for the 16valve, its more tuneable etc

reading about carnoisseurcraig and his 1400 turbo makes me want one!!! lol I am just wondering whether to track down a x14xe and rebuild it while I buy the turbo conversion bit by bit or whether to track down a corsa sri or nova gsi lump and turbo an 8v, think it would be a better place to chuck my money rather than leather interior, loadsa ice and full irmscher kit, mainly due to me not wanting to shell out on painting and waitinh on stuff, dont matter what engine I got for, it will be worked on in my spare time-just wondering which way to go and wot turbo would be best- courtenay wud pull my pants big time wouldnt they?:boggle: |
