leave ur immobiliser and transponder ecu alone!!!!!! when key is recognised by imobbiliser it'll let engine start. dont have change this if havin new engine!!!
only need change engine ecu!!

oh, and does anyone know how much this would cost?

ok i think ive got it!

to swap x14xe to another x14xe its just a straight swap of the engine.

and for x14xe to x16xe you swap the engine, and put the programme chip from the x16xe ECU to the x14xe ECU. and this will stop me having to change the chip in the key.

can someone please confirm this? cheers:thumbs:

i dont think mine must have one. its a p reg 1997 model. before the face lift.

yes you could swap the transponder in the key. Its rectangular in shape trying to think of something to compare it with size wise.

where do u have to tape the 1.6 key?

is there something in the key that sends a message to the ecu?
if so can it not be put in the original key?

You'd have to use the 1.6 key. That 'should' solve it. Or just tape the 1.6 key to the sensor.

Cheaper to replace the engine if it will need a rebuild with new pistons.

it has bent cylinder head and pistons. should be cheaper to get another engine. wont it?

how do i overcome the immobiliser problem?

ainsley_brader

Looms will be the same between x16xe and x14xe but c16xe will be different!

miles

It would be immobilised as the immobiliser is in the ecu.

corsa_jim

why not jus replace the head mate it would be cheeper than changeing a full engine jus coz of a few bent valves

yeah the looms will be the same, i will be swoping my 1.4 16v for a 1.6 16v soon so will be doing this swop, if you get there first let me know if it wasa direct swop over!

M4tt

posted on 7th Mar 04 at 12:35

i believe you can keep your exisiting loom and keys?

someone will have to confirm that though cause im not 100%

shorty235

posted on 7th Mar 04 at 12:33

i asked this befor but didnt get an answer. if i was to fit a x16xe would the loom from the x14xe fit so i didnt have to swap it. could i just swap the engine and ecu?
wot r the transponder things in the key that people talk about?

M4tt

posted on 7th Mar 04 at 12:28

yeah you can stick another 1.4 16v in with no probs, and a 1.6 16v will go in too with no probs as well

my engine is badly damaged after the timing belt snapped, if i got another engine the same (x14xe). would it be a straight swap?

or could i stick a x16xe? dont think i could afford the insurance tho.
