all the 1.4 16v engines were ecotec, on both the sport and the sri. the 1.6 engines are the ones where there are a difference, on the gsi and sport

quote: Total waste of money! The8valves say theres are faster and the 16valves say there faster. All i'm guna say is the 16valvers need to be revved to get the power out, and its expensive if anything goes wrong. 8valves pulls lower down. Honestly your rend up paying a lot more money if the engine goes wrong and you wont notice any power increase. if ur doing a convesion its gotta be 1.6 or 2.0 mate

i think they are a little bit, but dought you'd notice it. economy technology so probably more restrictive inlet, exhaust and probably different ecu settings

quote: I dont really wanna stick in a 1.6 as i plan on selling it in july/august, and its already cost me over £600 and im still without a fully working engine. changing from a 1.4 8v to a 1.4 16v wouldnt require a new gearbox would it?

the deal is that ive just spent £500 on having the top end rebuilt because the cambelt snapped + £150 on various things in an MOT. but now its failed on emissions coz the piston rings are cracked :!
