Must be the sheilding problem then. Did you use shielded cables to extend it all?

Houckham

posted on 24th Feb 04 at 00:20

i checked continuity by pinning out either end of the cable

Richie

Did you check only the parts you extended or from corresponding points on either connector of the lead?

Houckham

its all a learning curve

totally

Continuity test was perfect. and there was almost no diff in the resistance of the cable

Richie

nah i doubt it. Did you solder the connections on the cables? May have a dry point, u double and triple checked it?

Houckham

Ok this is just a follow up....

After spending 5 1/2 hours on exteding the cable.. using 3 diffrent cables.
Fully continuity tested and checked the resistance wasnt increased.

Connected it up today. with no luck whatsoever

So rang kenwood for a replacement who put me in touch with Fullers (must be the company who makes the leads)

And one is being sent out for me this week. £41.95 WHAT A BASTARD!!!

Same short length so im gonna have to move them closer together now. wish i had of just done that in the first place

i think it would be best to contact kenwood cos to be honest extending the cable like u want to could cause you some problems interference wise.

then i would twist together then heatshrink the whole lot to the existing cable for a nice finish?

Houckham

ok

would this do for the 4 core? ill get 2 x 1m of this?
http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?CartID=040220200705757&moduleno=136

and then just use my 20 core for the other 10 wires?

Adam-D

only thing i can suggest is get 2 2 4 core screen wires then a 10 core wire extend them
then tie the 3 wires together
it seems a lot of hassle but the screening is there for a reason

Houckham

OK.... i got the screened 20 core from maplins.

but on cutting the origional (Kenwood) wire. this is what i found....

:boggle:

The cable i got from maplins is just a normal 20 core screened cable.

Any ideas of what to do

i havent used 12 core personally, max ive used is 7 core trailer cable.

What is the 12 core for? You could use two lengths of 7 core....
