im thinking a 2.0ltr turbo engine from an astra would be the best bet......

Pete,
I had a chance to look closely at a 22SE engine in an Astra SRi this week.

Short answer, looks too hard to put into a "C".

Insurance will be kinder on n/a than forced induction. Let me worry about that :thumbs:

C20LET is possible when running 2 ECU's, then again, its illegal anyway.

Gazza: I keep thinking the engine mounts might be a pain in the rear because I naively think that due to the 1.8 in the Barina SRi is the Astra donk, then the 2.2 shouldn't be that hard? Like I said, I would be easily proven wrong as I don't exactly know where to look or what to look at.

That seems to be a 2.0L from the US? And a roots blower? More info please...

I'm pretty sure that the latest Astra uses electronic throttle as well, so it wouldn't be a large jump to expect them to be similar/same in operation.

17% more power, 23% more torque...

C20LET is a bitch because the throttle arrangement is so different and not able to be used in NSW (where Pete lives) anyway.

More thought needed on this I feel :)

c20 lets arent that hard to find the 6sp gearboxes are tho!

how much was the c20 let? ( mine van is a 96 and I know where a 97 LET is!)

The way I think of it is if the Corsa 1.8s come from the Astra, then the 2.2 should also fit the same engine mounts (reasonably thinking, to cut production costs.) Of course, I've got no idea if the Corsa 1.4 has the same engine mounts as the Corsa 1.8. I would think that things start to get different with the 2.0 Turbo and 2.6L V6, seeing as its been said here that the Astra Turbo is a bitch of a conversion to the Corsa C, not to mention price of engines!

I don't see any reason why the gearbox wouldn't bolt up either; all I know is when I look into my engine bay, I see a lot of the ground underneath, so theres plenty of real estate there.

I should think it would be a reasonably easy job to fit - the z22se engine is quite a compact engine - many of the coolant pipes run internally in the block/head - the engine ecu is bolted to the inlet manifold - fitment of the ancilaries is compact and therefore actually getting it to fit would be quite easy - Convert the corsa to a f23 gearbox with cable shift and gear lever - only major problem is wiring - you would have to fit the throttle pedal from the z22se and spend many hours with the wiring diagram !!!!

I noticed that as well, but not being mechanically soudn myself I thought I'd better ask :D

When do we start? I heard along the grapevine you were going to do the conversion in your garage and all you wanted was a slab of CUB's finest! :lol:

Engines seem piss easy to come by, I'll scout around and if it's a goer I'll add it to "the list"

thinking about it wouldent be to hard
just alot of wireing
as it would be a matter of ripping total the old loom and fitting a new one (engine not car)
as i do not thing you can just tap into the New (corsa C style electronic) looms, i just think it would be easy to replace the lot.

I really wnated to be the first to do this engine conversion.

I was thinking about it for ages.

Dont see y it wouldnt be possible. Its all aluminium as well so its light.:thumbs:

The inlet/exhaust is on the other side in the Z22SE, compared with Z14/18XE.

I imagine you could use many Astra bits, but it would be an interesting job!

Has anyone done these converstions?

I'm asking because C20LETs are in short supply here, not to mention the small matter of it being illegal in Australia to put an older engine into a newer chassis. I heard it was a bastard to do in the C anyway

My car is a 2001 build Z14XE, and there are plenty of Z22's around at wreckers, wondered if anyone had done this in the UK and how viable it is?
