My old standard exhaust used to catch on the back axle, all I did was loosen the clamp, rotate the backbox (which increases the distance between the bend and axle due to the angle the rear silencer's attached to the centre section) and then tightened up the clamp bolts so they're on top, as far away from the axle as poss. Problem solved.

I lowered mine 60mm with the standard exhaust on.
The U clamp did touch but i just moved it slighty and turned it round.
I also used Ford Focus exhaust hangers and it was fine.

Heat the bend up with a blow torch at your local exhaust place, then put more of a bend on it and this should mean it clears ok...

it should be ok with lowering 40mm, but if not just play with it on the rubbers so it will clear it, im lowered 45mm rear and mine is fine and its 2.25" bore, (bigger than standard) and im using the original rubbers.

its only a standard exhaust.
