waterpump & thermostat. I replaced neither when I did mine though, but I knew mine would be perfect without these being replaced. :)

I have just changed the head gasket on my 1.4 8v SRi (C14SE) its not that bad to do but I did change the hydraulic lifters aswell, you have to take them out anyway and if the engine has a tapping noise in the morning especially in this weather its worth doing, £4 per adjuster I think and you need 8 of them, but if you dont get tapping in morning dont bother, just stick to the haynes manual and you shouldnt go too far wrong! once you have the head off check the faces for pitting, make sure both faces are spotless and dont scratch them! Also check to see if the head has warped, by getting a straight edge against the head face, this should not be out by too far (check haynes manual for tolerances) if this is out the head will need to be skimmed, mine didnt need skimming tho it did take me more than a day too do so make sure you have someway keeping the engine bay clean! Hope this helps and good luck!

it may be the head gasket, but with readings like this it kind of looks more like rings to me mate, did you do the wet/dry test as well to compare readings?

Also, Just to be complete sure, while I was doing the compresion test, exhaust fumes came out through the dipstick hole, that indicates, head gasket, isn't it??

could be a cracked head, what happened on my dads omega, had already gone once when the previous owner had it, when dad stripped it all down again cos it was pressurizing he noticed that there is a crack from one of the inlet valves.

Nothing to do with the oil pump.

Nah, sounds like the head gasket then, I just wanted to check before you changed it.

You sure its the gasket that has gone? Normally two cylinders would be down(not always though). It could be worn piston rings or cam lobes, check as described in the Haynes.

You can get a head set, which basically is all the gaskets and seals needed to change replace the head.

You'll also need head bolts as they stretch.

You may as well also change the cam belt and rollers (kit available) and the waterpump.

What engine is it?

Get parts from www.autovaux.co.uk much cheaper than vaux.

Yesterday I did a compression test and the results were the following:

Cylinder 1: 14.2
Cylinder 2: 10
Cylinder 3: 13.9
Cylinder 4: 13.9

As I was dreading, I think the head gasket is gone.

So I am armed with the Haynes manual, a Micrometer Torque Wench and a weekend, but I was wondering do I need to change only the head gasket cover or is there anything I should be changing while I am there?

I have read in this forum that there is kit, do I need to Vauxhall to get it??

Any help will be much appreciated as this is my first time.

Thanks
