I'd go for 10's not 12's and put the 10's in pretty large sealed boxes. They will still drop and be tight as...

yes JL are very good, i have a 12" W3V2 now.
My dad has a W7 and i think most knowledgeable people on here would reccomend them m8. The other i have listed are also good buy all will need a hefty amp to power them properly.

Get JL / RE / Diamond or similar subs for £400 odd. Alpine, infinity etc... are middle range tbh and not as good as brands above. For that money u cud get :-

JL 12W6V2 - £399

RE XXX 12" - £379.99

Diamond M6 12" - £369.99

All would be really good!

its down to how u wire it up and what amp u got i think, if u got a alpine mono amp running nice at 2 ohm, i think u get the 1241D sub and if ur amp only runs highest power at 4 ohm, u get the 1221D sub? am i right

Thinking of alpine subs u c, but i don't reall understand the difference between SWR-1241D and SWR-1221D. Both r 12" but SWR-1241D is (4Ohm+4Ohm) and the other is (2Ohm+2Ohm). Wots the difference?

15" will be too big and wont be tight enough for hiphop/rap :( to behonest 12" is a nice all rounder, you can through anything at a majority of them and they will be alright and it will sound just fine.
Personally, i would get myself 2 10"s or even 3 for hiphop/rap and get decent ones and big fook off amp  will be tight for the bass and wuill be loud too :)

Wot sorta size of sub should u go for if ur listening to hip hop and rap music?I was thinking of gettin 2 12"'s or 1 15" alpine sub.

yep deffo. Obviously it wont be as tight as a 10", but it will be tight enough for the kicks and bass in a dance/trance track But a 12" will also go lower than 10" so it will give more of a punch on the tracks
But i would have a listen to a few 12" subs in your local ice shop and have a listen on sum 10's as well and see what ya want to go for

yea, there top end stuff, but your gonna be paying for it, ie: 3-400 quid for the speaker alone etc If youve got abit of cash to burn, the also look at Audiobahn's. Great subs, but again your gonna be paying for it, except not in the sub but in the amp - IE: you can pick up an audiobahn for 100 quid (just the speaker, not that good mind u) but its rated at 550w...so an amp will set you back about 300 odd quid for something so so.

cheers mate, are infinitys good then? i was looking at these the other day

Dom

posted on 11th Jan 04 at 16:07

if its dance/trance stuff then i would go for a 12" sub mate in a sealed box
As for which sub, well is that 400 quid just for the speaker, or for the whole amp/wiring/box/sub? if its just for the sub, i would go for infinity, rocky's, alpine and others. Personally mate, i would get myself down to your local ICe shop and ask them. Just dont get flogged off with some kenwood, sony or pioneer shite, get them to show you the REAL stuff
