Its common when the engine is cold is it not? Also i have found older cars usually smell of petrol alot worse than newer ones

Because the spark plug was only scrwed in a couple of threads fumes were escapin from the cylinder making a smell of petrol/exhayst fumes

im gona strip down the bellmont probs later, just remove the carb & inlet manifold, could be the gasget, smells all the time in ours!

topic hogging here i know, but would a knackered manifold gasket also cause the car to run on a bit (3-4 turns, very lumpy) after the engine is switched off? just the bellmont also does that

cant imagine why spark plug wud have anything to do with it.....

most common problem is breather pipes r cracked or not fitted properly.

I had this found out one of my spark plugs was loose might also wanna check around inlet manifold

its very random to be onest , its wost if i put the fans on i have been told that old cars do get it mabye i will just have to live with it

Is it after you have just filled up? It could be on your feet from the petrol station and get absorbed into the carpet and smell really bad when the foot heater is on.:boggle:

we got a problem like this in our astra mk2, is a 1.6ohc engine (carb)

we've replaced the fuel pump, filter, fuel lines, but its still there :(

astra mk3 1994 , i smell petrol sometimes little sometimes bad sometimes not at all , in side the car , does any one get this is a probblem i have been given mixed opions
