When it happen again press the clutch and let it coast and see if it stops.

I think with you saying the gearbox it could be that because you can only hear it when the car is moving and not when its stood still so I will av the gearbox checked could be the oil level in the gearbox

Is the noise deffo coming from the engine?? could be the gearbox.

check your oil level, also just check how tight the fan belt is, may be a bit slack

I dont know if anyone has had this problem before. But when I accelerate and then let of when the revs die I get a wihning noise from the engine. Is this something to worry about or not.
