Another logical guess,

I got the rasp on a 12v with the centre section removed!

I recon that the rasp is always there, but lack of back pressure and silencing makes the rasp niose allot more pronounced!

shot in the dark, it happens more in 16v cos they have twice as many valves, putting way more fuel in at once?

gases release out the exhaust quicker with no restrictors and react with oxygen and pop,just a guess

yes, I know this, but what is actually causing the rasp sound? the mechanics behind it all?

My system's cat back with silencer removed, but what I've found is 16v cars are more raspier than 8v cars, why is this too... and back to my original question, what actually causes the rasp noise?

Yeah, I have a rasp in mine, but only up top end, and I mean right next to the rev limiter, got my centre silencer removed and changed with a full stainless system.

EDIT= Cat back system.

what causes that rasp noise, I get from my exhaust, I have a 1.2 16v Sxi, and a full sebring system, that my mate told me the other day 'isn't road legal' as its meant for race use only...

But if I rev it in say a car park, its like what I could only describe as a rasp that sounds like loads of sparks going off... real crackly.

It gets slightly better when warmed up,

but what causes this in the first place?
