power-per-pound to convert a 1.4 16v N/A Engine to Turbo would not be that great, plus you would have reliability issues if the job isn't done proper (like courtenays 'tripple gasket' trick), plus the N/A engine isn't really designed to run on forced induction.

Best results would be from a set of TB's, there is one chappy on here (canae remember his name) has got about 135bhp out of his 1.4xe with TB's & other mods

Courtenay do a turbo manifold for most engines. i wanna turbo my 1.416v myself...rekon its possible?

The difference between the LET and the XE is that the let has low comp pistons. There is also a oil feed hole in the back of the let block for the oil supply to the turbo.

The inlet manifolds, injectors, fpr etc are different as well.

ok ok

example :
corsa 1lt 12v
take the manifold and have a small turbo fitted into it.
feed that to the inlet.
and have a custom ECU made.

and thats it :boggle: ????

so why it cost 3-4k to do? as a custom ECU is only about 400

not sure about the internals mate but the manifolds and ecu shoulld be a straight swap

so in that sence if u have a 2lt 16v
you could bolt a turbo manifold on, and inlet and pipe it all up and jobs done?

and eather have a turbo ECU of custom made one?

he just used 1.5 td parts, they are a direct swap.

not if u run a very low PSi turbo :| manifold inlet and powerlow zorst ye for defo

best person to ask on this is Adam Peckerwick (or what ever hes called) ask about his corsa D, and see what he had to do then he bolted a 1.5TD manifold and Inlet on his standard 1.5D

From a purely mechanical point of view turbo's have to be made from very high temperature steel and have a good oil pump to lubricate and cool.

I'm guessing if you made one yourself it would probably burn out!

oh ok. Dont reallyt know too much about engines like, incase you couldnt tell :p

Kris TD

corsa c's are a different ball game thoughn

Melville

what would be the best engine conversion to put in. I mean not necessarily for max bhp but taking into account weight and cost and also fuel oconsumption. I was thinking that possibly a 1.6??

Kris TD

posted on 18th Dec 03 at 16:34

it would be cheaper to pu a 2l turbo in.

I think what he means mate is there anyway that he can build a turbo himself for a lot lesser price. Im not sure if its possible like but someone might know??

Kris TD

your looking at about almost as much as the car is worth, about 4-5 grand pretty much

Melville
