First time mine blew I was on the way to bradford, was just coming on the M606 & then a shit load of steam started comin out the back, I knew what it was but thought fek it & carried on drivin until I reached the nearest carpark (little chef just off the roundabout) & then got some water to fill the coolant tank up. Then went to morrisons & bought 10x4ltr bottles of morrisons own orange juice, emptied the bottles out & filled em all with water, then on the way home (about 80 miles), had to stop every 10 miles or so, had to re-fill the coolant. There was a nice zesty/oily smell in the car for the last 10 miles!! Plus was firin on 2 cylinders aswell during the last 10 miles

Head was fcuked beyond repair, so needed a new one to sort it all out

Anyways....

depending on your engine (8v or 16v), shouldnt really cost that much, the 8v you can do yourself if your competent enough with a spanner & dont mind gettin ya hands dirty, but the 16v if your not really that good with engines, your best takin it to a garage.

8v roughly 170-220 at a garage, 16v around 350-400, depends mainly on whats gone, you'll need the head skimming, and doing so they might remove the valves to do it, so you;ll also end up paying for the head being re-assembled (valves ground in, etc...)

As long as its not over heating then whilst its still driving things "shouldn't" be damaged....

Just make sure it always has coolent.

water leak, cylinders pack in and (in my case) your cylinder head ends up in the shape of a banana
