 so true. That wiring diagram above is fine tho isnt it? I went to get the battery tested (which they couldnt do cos its an optima or something) and they said bring it back in, and they will fit all the cables and stuff for £100, but so long as my install is built and all the stuff is in place, idont see a problem or a reason to waste £100.

Not a point mate, just more resistance in the curcuit theoretically. Just dont put a fooking sleeping back in your boot and make sure no part of any postitive feed is exposed, by covering them with insulation tape ect.

that cable isnt supposed to carry the current to the amp, its just the return loop of the slpit charge system. I could upgrade it to 2awg, but wouldnt that make it more likely for the problem to happen somewhere else?

why don't u use a 2awg cable from the boot batery to chasis?

theres a small chance that happened. The battery terminals are covered with plastic protectors, but theres one screw that sticks out over the top, so it is possible. The only cable that blew was the chassis to yellow top ground, and that must have had a huge current through as it was enough to melt the cable so much it broke!!

Stupid question... :o | |

the earth from yellow top to chassis is only used for the split charge system, the current of the amp shouldnt flow through it. The 8awg cable came with the split charge wiring kit, and is only used for the charging current (max 60 amps) between the two batteries. Im running 2400w RMS.

well, your ground from yellow top should be 2awg aswell, its just too puny to deal with the current passing through it!
