if its standard then it will either have a lower CR as standard, or the head will spaced differently from the block to make the same cr as the 1.5

just looking in the diesel haynes, the 1.5 has a thinner head gasket than the 1.7, therefore that may lower the compression ratio if im thinking right.

Get the bottom end balanced. Lighten the flywheel. Deseem the rods. Match the inlet and exhaust manifolds to the head. Flow the inlet manifold.

Tap the sump for an oil temp sensor/gauge?

Lower the CR?

suppose my uncle could slightly reprofile it.

had thought bout slightly lightening the fly wheel, im not convinced its a good idea too on a diesel though.

dont think u can get cams, even if u can not really worth the expence as u can only run mild cams on turbo cars :(

yeah changing pumps and all belts is a good idea. will do all gaskets too.
and give it a lick of paint :)

basically im looking to get a 1.7 td (isuzu) from a cav/astra
i have access to pretty much every machine for engine remanufacturing, so as the engine wouldnt be in a car i thought i would do some stuff to it.

so far,
1. rebuild as much as poss and recon it.
2. get the injectors cleaned
3. gas flow the head (just simple stuff, not bigger valves etc..) plus skim it etc..
4. fuel pump and boost tweek
5. grind out the lumps from both manifolds.

any other suggestions?

would also be putting in a performance clutch into which ever gearbox i decide to use.
