Lost the old belt whilst driving. ONes bought matched for engine were very long, and made constant rubbing. so bought shorter ones, and no just rubs on full lock as mentioned

Well unless the new belt is longer than the old one, It is just coincidence

Normally yes, I'd agree with you. Just seems huge co incidence no issues until change belt and on first drive it rubs

Mounts have worn, The rubber has gone squshy, Its why you haven't had any issue until now. The engine is moving around.

being honest here, my alternator is quite close to the body of the car and ive thrown it into corners and its never had a problem. check all the mounts are properly tight as it should have some movement but yours might be moving a bit too much

i had a similar problem, solution was to grind a bit off the back of the alternator mount which brought it closer

I had four ribs on my Alternator pulley, I've found the M-TEC engine mount gives the most clearance away from the chassie.

Happened to me when I had a multi v belt engine, only thing that I ever thought would sort it is either cutting a couple of ribs off the pulley and getting a slimmer belt or fitting v belt pulleys. Pain in the arse either way

Belt broke last week, so bought new one. With new one fitted pulley was grinding on chassis leg. |
