Yeah as Leeshez says, new belt is only few £'s get new one while you at it, might as well. Worst thing would be for it to break!

Yeup i did this with my alternator belt and it stopped it squeaking. My fan is also electric. If not put a new belt on only costs between £2- £4 depend where you get them from Lee

Undo the Bolt holding the Alternator in place.
Get a large strong metal bar or piece of wood.
Lever the Alternator upwards getting as much tension onto the belt.
Then whilst holding the bar at that pressure attempt to do the bolt back up.
An extra hand is always useful at this point.
I think the belt is supposed to flex about half an inch but I maybe wrong.

Maybe the hanes manual aint helping because.... you don't have a fan belt.

My fan belt sometimes slips on ignition and sounds like I'm punishing a pig.
To stop it squealing I obviously need to tighten it but on consulting the trusty Haynes manual I'm none the wiser (it was a 1 spanner too so I must just be a muppet!)- any help appreciated!
