to get to the egr valve u have to remove battery and tay if removable then push the water bottle over wher the battery was and remove the loom runnin around that area the if u look under the inlet manifold u can just see it. its a bit of a fiddlie job but easy enough to do, while ur there u mite as well remove idle control valve n give it a clean just to make sure.

Typical EGR mate  Mine was on for approximately 200 miles - when I drove it about 400 yards to my garage to do the paperclip test, it didn't come on, and hasn't since

Any ideas where the EGR valve is on the X16XE?

Roughly how hard to fit?

Thanks.

Just did a paper clip test and got this -

1405 Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (EGR) valve n/a

Would that cause a rough idle though :boggle:

mines having the same problem.. iv taken it to the local garage and they checked it over completely. there was nothing wrong with it apart from a slightly split vacuum pipe which they repaired. when they plugged it into the computer the only fault it came up with was engine managment, but it didnt specifically say what the problem was. therefore the garage said they couldn't fix it. so basically i have to take it to a vauxhall garage.

so if anyone can help id be thankful... i don't really fancy paying vaux ££££!

cheers

Sorry I didn't text back yesterday mate, I was in Bristol at a mates and as I was writing my reply my phone battery died!

Anyway, the bit I did manage to write was "Unfortunately, it could be anything!"

and from looking at these posts, they seem to agree with me Marc. When mine was running strange, I changed my idle control valve, but I never had the EML on.

Mine is also beginning to run a little strange at the moment though, and I also suspect an airleak, somewhere in the inlet system or a vacuum pipe :(

could be a leaky inlet manifold gasket or split vacuum pipe

Find out what eml codes are stored, and check for air leaks around the throttle rubber sealing ring for starters.

Ive not had a proper look around it as ive only recently got it home.

But its got some stupid ass exhaust on it (not a decat) and some chavvy induction kit - which im swapping over today for my standard airbox off my old car.

try checking the thing for air leaks as its sounding like it is a little air leak thats causing this, what mods have been done?

what air filter you got?

My car starts fine, but the EML doesnt go out once its on and idling.

It idles fine, but then it idles all lumpy and practically cuts out. If i rev it, sometimes the idle issue sorts itself out, but sometimes it doesnt.

Acceleration is fine and pulls fine. Just idling all funny.

The EML doesnt go out at all.

Any ideas on what to do? Or what it could be?
Im new to 1.6's so sorry if this has been asked loads before, couldnt find anything search-wise.

Thanks
Marc.
