So what code did you get?

You need to count the exact number of flashes...

Like I have explained above.

ahh got it now well it flash pause then flash 4 times

The sequence of flashes translates to numbers.

So one quick flash, pause, two quick flashes, long pause....equates to the code 12.

You see?

OK, locate your diagnostic plug, its in with the fuse box below the headlight switch etc.

It looks like this:

Once located, note the positions of pin A & B.

Start the car so engine is running.

You need to get a paperclip (or speaker cable etc) and stick one end of the paperclip in pin A and the other end in pin B. You will notice the Engine Management light will start flashing.

It is going to give you any fault codes that are currently stored on the ECU. It will repeat each code 3 times before moving onto the next. It will always start with code 12 and end with code 12. Anything in the middle is a stored fault code.

So for example if you had a code 13 you will get:

12
12
12

13
13
13

12
12
12

(it will then repeat this until you unplug the paperclip....)

The sequence of flashes will look like this:

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*
longer pause

*flash*
pause
*flash*flash*
longer pause

*repeat above*

Does that make sense?

I fecking hope so cos it took me ages lol....

Once you have the codes, refer to the toppbuzz website as mentioned in my first reply, look up the codes for the GM Multec ECU...then post results here.

has any one done this and could give me a step by step guide on how to do it please the site is a bit confusing

Do the paperclip test.

The diagnostic plug is under the fuse box cover....see here for what to do:

http://www.topbuzz.co.uk/info/fault_codes/fault_codes.htm#gm

Yours is the GM Multec type so you will short pins A & B....

Read the instructions on the website for the rest.....post the codes you get!

As said earlier in the thread sound slike some sort of sensor problem.

Clearly that might mean that a sensor is faulty and needs replaced. Or the sensor is doing its job and is doing something that it picks up isn't quite right.

tbh. you'd really need to do some sort of diagnostic test/read to isolate the problem.

?paperclip test might be good first port of call.

Anything funny about the drive you did previously?

Driving it particularly hard? or any funny noises or lights or anything that you noticed?

corsa_sean

erm was only for like half a hour then went back to the car and noticed the light was on then wouldnt rev over 4k and it has stayed like this runs fine up to 4 then acts like it has hit the limiter

Fraser Young

How long between running fine then starting it this time?

i.e. Overnight? Or has it been sat for a long time?
