I would. But, make sure he gets genuine Vaux camshaft seals. I can't stress that enough.

are you sure? certainly cudnt do that on a 20xe without splitting them putting the new ones in. have to make sure surfaces are dry like when doing cv grease or it will continue to leak

Parts won't be much. You'd need camshaft seals and a cambelt.

I'm not entirely sure wether they can be done with the cams in......can't remember.

How much would parts be?

and is it hard to do.. cause i work in a workshop/garage.. we fix land rovers and mainly do welding / engineering things..

Was wondering if i could ask the mechanic i work with to do it..

They'll just leak. If you get them changed make sure they use genuine Vaux ones.

All they do is seal around the end of the cam to keep the oil in.

Not a bad DIY job if your confident and can time an engine up.

£80 is basically all labour.

Been looking into buying me mates sport..

but he just had real bad smell of oil took it to a garage.. and they said cam seals have gone.. quoted £80..

Do you think thats about right?

And can it damage the engine if driving while they're gone and is it a sign of anything else?
