the guy selling those pro tech ones on ebay say the egr system has to be disabled.

Are you talking exhaust manifolds?

If yes, then the EGR is nothing to do with it. The EGR is a passage in the head.

The exhaust manifolds system is the secondary air pump. It heats up the engine with exhaust gasses and sounds like a hoover.

This can be blanked off. Search is your friend: -
