Another way is to see if it has an air flow meter, if it has one then it is a C16XE!

C16XE = 109 bhp
X16XE = 106 bhp

C16XE has an black plastic inlet manifold and NO EGR valve

X16XE has an alloy inlet manifold and HAS a EGR valve

Both engines were used in GSi's and the later X16XE engines were used in sport 1.6's

C16XE produces its maximum torque @ 500rpm LOWER than the X16XE. (I THINK :P)

also is there a way to tell if its a c16xe by the ports, thought one of the c or x had oval and the other different. is there any markings on say the head that you can tell from?

c16 were all plastic, x16 were alloy. don't think there's a performance difference, but they sound different. both pretty restrictive anyhow.

early c16xe engines pre ecotec were black plastic
the later ones were metal "the x16xe ecotec"
