Does that lump have a MAF sensor? if so try cleaning it with some carb cleaner or suitable solvent, careful not to break it though.

idle control valve for a guess

Anybody know what would cause this engine to idle erratically?
Goes up and down and up and down.
For a mate and I dont' have a clue about ford engines.
Know there are some fans here though.
