ok so your saying the Lambda/O2 might need changing!!!!
they cost a bomb from vauxhall!!

Please check this link.. which one do i need??

http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/lambda_sensors.php

i think the CAT does need replacing also! i think its been on the car for over 5 years! on my scorpion cat-back exhaust about a year ago the middle silencer started to rattle and i think the CAT must have thrown somthing back into it, it still rattles today!!!!

Please check this link, is it worth me buying the Uprated one, which is £140 delivered or the standard one which is £90 delivered??

cleaning the lambda doesnt make any difference, possibly worth changing the lambda, i did this on my SRi i wasnt getting any ECU fault warnings that lambda was broke but it brought my emissions right down

You could also try and convince your tester that the engine is 91 spec LOL!

gsi's are prone for piston rings fcuking my girl friend has 1 and it wouldnt go thru. (same problem as you) so just get friendly wif a tester and he may just happen to put the probe up the wrong exhaust if u know what I mean. wink wink

If its oil and worset comes to worse run it with no oil for the test or bear min, my 1.4 had no oil when i got it. Dunno how yours would hold up lol

lamba sensor was cleaned and is working!
if it was not, the ecu light will come on! one way of checking... i if u disconnect your lamba sensor the ecu light will come on straight away :look:

"corsapaul" im saving up for a full rebuild/conversion soon :)

yes ive done ALL that.. i used redox and a inlet cleaner and put my old airbox on and then took it for a 50mile thrash!!! still failed quite badly!!

what else could it be beside the cat guys???

My gsi failed on the same thing. I took the induction kit off, and put my old box back on. I also sprayed 10 k boost into the engine, and then used some redex. Car ran like sh*t whilst it pumped all the crap out, but a couple of journeys later it was fine, and it passed.

the catalystic converter is working best when it's hot.

take the car around for a drive before testing emissions :)

no need to take of the filter or change the fuelpressure.. just ride around for a min or 20 before testing

the 02 sensor was cleaned and a fuel/intake additive used, and i took the car for long thrash, still failed on emmisions quite badly!!!

i was told it will need a new CAT by the looks of things??
what you think??

i can get a uprated CAT with metal internals etc for £140, how does that sound??

i took the car straight to the test centre and hasnt been driven for a day or two before then so i guess that didnt help!!

and i deffinately would not drive the car for any distance with out the airfilter :! its their for a reason!!

plus my car has a induction kit fitted, but for the MOT i stuck the standard airbox back on

havin it off for a ten minute blast wont do any harm

Have you tried taking it for a serious hammering down the road? It often works, can you turn the fuel pressure down at all?

can you possibly scan me a copy of the emission report?

AdamF

is the exhaust blowing. i take it that is the lambda that is too high?

what could be wrong and what could i do???
o2/lambda sensor?
CAT?
perol type/use additives?

pass rate is about 1.02, my car was about 1.09 and my mot man said its out quite a lot! :o
Note- car does need a rebuild as it does BURN/SMOKE and LEAK a lot of oil!!
