If your alternator is fucked it means your battery won't hold its charge.

well its been in at the garage all day - and they've told me i've got a faulty alternator - which is causing the drain - is this possible?

your battery is either gubbed or you have a drain on it

Is it possible for the battery to be drained flat by the alternator if the alternator is faulty? - I charged my battery full then re-installed it - left the car parked in my drive for a few hours - went back to it and it was flat as a fart!
