Thanks for the help.I will try and a get a 1.4 8v mpi from a corsa or astra.

So if i had the astra engine it would go in easily??What other bits would i need. One of those engines should be easy to source.

I will get an insurance quote for an sri and see what it is.Knowing what irish insurance prices are like it will be too much as usual.

I have spent a lot of money on my car as it is so rather than try and sell it and not get what i want i might as well put the engine in it.Anyway i would have to go to the uk to buy a car or an engine anyway.

Would a standard SRi not be easier to insure?

Just buy the car with the engine in it you want... No point in doing a swap like that, you can say bye bye to selling the car easily and it will be difficult to insure.

not sure mate, its a good engine, nice and torquey low down with some good power up top for an 8valve, have a look at my pics

Most probably is the same engine. Engine codes for the early corsa 1.4s are

14NZ
C14NZ
C14SE (SRi multi point injection)

If these codes are the same for the astra, then no problem. Havin said that, provided you got the loom, gearbox and ecu, you can put just about any vaux engine into any corsa...

Is the 1.4 8v mpi engine out of an astra the same as an 8v sri engine.Would the astra engine go straight into my car.

carnagesri

Well i can get the engine put in for free and in ireland insurance costs are outrageous so i would be delighted to have an sri engine. Its not like the uk where you can insure a redtop for reasonable money.

CorsAsh

lets see - 45 bhp, to 80-odd? Seems worthwhile to me... Much better engine, my mates got one with filter, exhaust etc, and its fair quick

can u see the benefit of spending all that time and money on 0.2 of an engine?

carnagesri

posted on 20th Aug 04 at 17:41

The 1.2 8v is a very dead engine and i'd say an sri engine would make a big difference to the car.

CorsAsh

I imagine it'd be fairly straighforward to do the swap, want to do it on mine too.

Would need engine, loom and 'box, as well as a MPI fuel pump... Wouln't need new mounts I don't think, which is a bonus...

I have a 1995 1.2 8v corsa and i was wondering if it is straight forward to put a 8v sri engine into my car.As i live in ireland insurance prices are colossal and a 1.4 is all i can go up to.Would an engine be hard to source from the uk.If this is possible what would people think of a full janspeed exhaust system.Would it make much difference to the car.Any feedback would be welcome.Thanks.
