ye this is what i'm saying the sub atm is dual 4ohm which means it will run either 8 or 2 ohm.

so i'm running it wiat 2 ohm off this amp which means its 100rms under power, but next few months i'll get another sub and big amp to run both subs as 1ohm and full power, then the ampo i have now will power a 12" sub :)

so that'll be 2 x 15" and 1 x 12" and a total rms power of 1400 :) should be fair good set up.

If the subs show as 2ohm each when running the voice coils in parallel, shouldn't you be able to run the 2 subs in parallel with eachother to get a 1ohm load on the amp?

ye i'll just keep it for now, CBA with changing it, coz hopfully next month i'll be getting another one to match and then i can run them both at 1ohm and get a amp bigger to power them fuly :)

tbh mate, phone the people up and tell them this and that you was lead to think it was dual 2ohm coil version and get them change it before they ship it :)

No it wont break it, especially, since you will be running it quiet for a good few weeks (will be probably a month or so before you go full power on the amp). Only problem you will suffer, is that amp might distort when being cained and subs dont like distortion, so you will have to keep it so so power until you get a decent amp.

If you are stuck with sub, then get an amp that is 100wRMS more than that of the sub, and just take the gain down a tad to compensate, as that will cut out lack of distortion

right read that didnt understand that, got onto the audiobahn site, and have realised my mistake :(

is says dual 4ohm voice coils, 2ohm or 8 ohm opperation. on the site i bought from it lead me to belive it was 2ohm 4oihm or 8ohm opperation.

so no with the amp i've ordered means it will only be running at 2ohm and thats gonna be 100rms underpower :(

will it break the sub if its like this for 2months till i buy another sub and amp, then run it at 1ohm and full power.

You've confused yourself mate.

Have you read my speaker impedence tutorial?

it says the sub is 2ohm, 4 ohm and 8ohm operational and it is dual voice coils, so i can run it at 2ohm dual.

but how the fuck does the sub know what i'm running it at??

I did tell you and i got ally to tell you that to get a 1 ohm load you need a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub, or two of the dual 4 ohm subs

well it'll have to work now coz i've orderd it :o

the sub can run at 2ohm so it will work at 1ohm wont it??

If you mean subs have a dual 4 ohm voice coil, then no, they won't run at 1 ohm.

If you want to run at 1 ohm, get dual 2 ohm and wire in parallel.

Did you read this thread?

i would mate, just turn the gains up so it just reaches the point when it sounds a bit 'muddy' then turn it down a slight bit.

remember about running then in first :)

langey

posted on 7th Aug 04 at 13:15

well i'll go with the 2 12's then.

keep the gains down on the amp.

kev_corsa

should always have the power rating of ur amp higher than the combined power rating of your speakers anyway mate. ensures you get a nice clean signal with no distortion and also allows you to push it that little bit more to compensate for signal drop in the cables :)

right got some cash the other day :D off all next week so think i'll stop myself from being bored and put in a system.

2 x 12" audiobahn AUD-AW1251T subs.
400rms
2" 4 layer ASV voice coil, dual 4 ohm, 2ohm or 8ohm operation. (will these be ok running off the amp at 1ohm?)

the amp is kenwood KACPS811D
1600watt max, 1000rms at 1ohm.

but i'm thinking the subs are gonna be a total of 800rms, then amp can do 1000rms, maybe get the 2 15's which are 500rms each? will they be quite a bit louder than 2 12's at 400rms each? the price difference all togehter will be about 60quid?? so will the loudness be worth it?
