this is silly bothering me,

i've got a new idea - how about using a mini-angle grider to just take the lip off the safety catch?

Surely it will sit flush when closed as he's not moving the metal catch or owt? He's just 'spring-loading' the rubber bungs so it pops open better when the catch is released...

forget if they're in the tailgate or in the shell now, but if you unwind it a turn or two, then it should bounce the boot past the catch while the solenoid is still open.

then your boot wont sit flush...
