i have 17's et45, lowered -40mm on my corsa c. no rubbing and theres plenty more room in the arches for more loweing if need be. I didnt like the ride on just Apex springs as i found it to be too bouncy so i bought some Koni adjustable shocks which firmed up the ride a bit and now i can fly round corners :)

theres plenty of room, but bcuz vx hav so many probs with racks and hubs they say oh its your wheels to try get out of it. same for astra g and headlights steaming u. vx hav told us to leave on for 20mins then use compressed air to blow it out. if it goes cant hav new1 warranty. pants

i work for vx and now u gotta be careful bcuz vx are trying to blame big wheels for the faulty racks and hub assys. 17s are ok on their own or lowered, but if go in a dealership, put standards back on. it saves a lot of hassle.
