I paid 160 quid for the idlers water pump cambelt and cambelt tensioner trade from vauxhall and fitted it my self so that weren't a bad price

When you get your cam belt changed, it's best to get the belt, water pump, rollers and pre-tensioners changed, regardless of condition!

Unless of course you would prefer to chance it and spend a lot of cash on rebuilding your engine when the cam belt snaps because of a shattered roller or seized water pump!:P

there is a warranty on the belt & tensioners as long as you use original GM parts - doesnt matter who fits them be it a dealer or a back street garage

Sorry Dave, its for the 2.0 litre, I'm sure I've seen them on there for other engines, unless the auction has finished, I'll look later and see if its been re posted.

i think i will do this Rob, since its still got 3k miles till 40k miles. So its ok i guess. Just a full service and MOT on Friday then. Only £135!!

Its a tricky one, getting it done by a main dealer, you have the peace of mind knowing there is a warranty in the event of it breaking during its normal lifetime.
Abackstreet type garage will do a cheaper job, but, if it should break a few thousand miles down the road, your on your own.
Personally, as your selling it anyway, take the cheaper option. Or, sell it as it is but tell the prospective buyer that its due a belt change.

bloody hell rob. Well it needs to be done soonish, just spoke with a local garage, smallford motors in St Albans, he quoted me around £100, but he wouldnt change the tensioners and rollers if they werent knackered. Do you knwo anywhere decent rob?

Sounds about right, my camshaft sensor snapped off last year and damaged the belt. I can't remember the exact cost for the belt and tensioners as it was under warranty, but it was well in excess of £200

1.6 16v. Just rang them, they said the tensioners and rollers are changed, and if the water pump is knackered, they change that at an additional cost!!! I think i will cancel.

My local dealer is charging me £250 to change the cambelt, since 40k miles is approaching. Am i being ripped off?
