40mm drop is a safer bet all round.

Whats the offset of the rims, depending on that and your tyre size depends wether it will rub or not.

40mm drop is fine on standard shocks, yet if you want to go to 60mm drop I would definatly recommend that you get new shocks aswell.

Dudes i have just got 17's.I have standard stock at mo but are wanting to lower it 60mm but are worried it will catch. Any ones got any pics of car with 17's and lowered 40. What make of spring should i go for
