ainsley, are you really, really sure it ain't mot failure?
I had at least 2 main dealers tell me it was. Once the bracket's
gone, the thing can move up and down...

i got 1.0l and sinse ive had my centre and backbox renewed, theres a fcukingknocking and rattling sound when i got people in the back, could this be my problem?

Ah right havent actually seen the design myself
i just assumed it was a securing strap from your description like the fords, never worked on a 1l corsa.
If it makes the exhaust blow then obviously it will fail. The only other thing it can fail on is security so could it fall off because the starp is missing?

I think the thing is, once one side has broken, there's then a potential
single point of failure, because if the other side then breaks when
you go over a speed hump or sumthin, then the thing is only held on by
the exhaust pipe under the car holding it up, it's bound to flex and leak
and possibly come away. Anyway, that's what the vaux dealer told me.

Tidus, hopefully not, have a look at the back of the back box and see if
the exit pipe is banging against the body, if they get the length wrong
it can do that. Also check the join where they put the new mid box on
(they have to cut the pipe and put a sleeve/clamps over it) and the hanger
that holds the pipe up halfway down the car. If it's the cat bracket you
can see it under the bonnet as I described earlier, but from what you say
sounds more like your zorst hasn't been fitted properly.
