Hi all,

My girlfriend's just bought a Corsa, wonder if you could help us out a bit.

It's a 98R 1.4 breeze Hi-Torq -

What's the engine code/name for that type of engine?
Whats 'Hi-Torq', does that mean it's single point injection?
What grade/type of engine oil does it need?

Are there places that sell genuine/OE parts at cheaper prices, i.e like 'Euro car parts' do for german cars? I'm struggling to find any on the net or in yellow pages.

Where do you recommend I buy all the bits for servicing?

And what engine/styling mods are good for this model?

Cheers guys and girls,

Andy

hi mate, the 1.4 hi torq was the 60bhp spi

should think it takes 10W40 grade oil?

vaux are a rip off for most parts. i use part co for my bits, very good indeed (they actually supply halfords and the like but much cheaper)

example:

vaux ball joint - 28 quid
halfords 14 quid
part co - 6 quid

all the same part too

any styling mods will go on to it, but to be honest id leave the engine as it is, not very cost effective to get the power out of it

ps -

service.....

oil and oil filter, put a K&n pannel filter (100000 miles warrenty) and drill the air box (b4 the filter)

spark plugs/leads/dizzy cap if it needs1

and watch out for things like B pillars cracking (very common on thrashed corsas)

Cheers guys.

Do 'part co' have units around the country or are they online?

Do you use vaux oil or branded stuff? how long do these engines last? Its got vaux service history upto 50k, its on 68k now. engine oil looks cleanish so has probably been self serviced. I'll be giving it a proper good service including brake fluid and fuel filter I think!

I'll check the B-pillars tomorrow!!

i use halfords oil for the plain fact i used to work there and i know its made by the same company as another top branded oil (but cheaper)

80k is the cambelt mark, id seriously do it anyway just to be on safe side (mine snapped at 82k and i ended up with a new engine)

part co as far as im aware are all over uk, see their vans all over (i live in both sheffield and darlington, both use part co )

and andy mate, the corsa is one of the best cars to get bits for - it has a lot of different styles (euro, jap, etc) so have a look about and see what u like then find out more about the bits and there u go!

id start off with some alloys
then lowering kit
then ezhaust
then different rear lights

but for free u can

debadge it
take side strips off
clean it up

and for very cheap u can

get a punto rear wiper
colourcode handles and dash parts
beesting arial

but stay away from stick on tat, its not worth it

lol, it must have had a stick on filler flap cover, because the filler cap is really badly scrached where some little scroat has tried to get it off with a screwdriver!

I noticed it had a beesting aerial - would this of come standard?

cheers, yeah it has a fatter key with a false button, do you think it's the transponder? Doesn't seem to have CL, might check behind door panel to see if it has(but is not working).

Doing the oil change tomorrow, is the sump plug a spanner job or do I need a special key?

Might go and see what Vaux charge for their oil, and get a Touch-up paint while I'm there.

cheers,

my breeze hi torq (P/97) came with
C/L, sunroof, PAS.

I think the false button on ur key is an actual light, look closely on the plastic bit, its a pathetic light lol.

Nice Rims Adam B []

Definately no immob on this car, It came with a plain spare key that can start the car up.

Sounds a good price for vaux semi-synthetic, will get some today.

M2 RVH, you got any contact details for part co.? I can't find anything on the net.

Need to top up the antifreeze, what type does it take? Does it need flushing out and replacing every few years or is it for life?

cheers ppl.
