Far more entertaining SetH.

England is Mine: 6/10 - Worth a watch if you find Morrisey interesting. Not a long or epic film and no smiths music sadly, but interesting and well shot.

It’s a very long film, not for everyone and it is slow to start. Worth the effort tho!

Gave this a go on your recommendation and I am glad that I did.

Lot's of old school famous actors in there! the historical accuracy seemed spot on. I liked how each off the Mercury 7 missions showed a different perspective and a little more detail each time. Kind of mitigated the groundhog day of what was becoming a fairly routine experience.

It came out in 1983 right? it certainly had more of a late 70's feel to it. Distinctive enough not to feel like most 80's movies in terms of score and special effects anyway, kind of had its own charm.

The aboriginis and the fireflys around the capsule for the Ed Harris character almost ruined it for me. I took the meaning that they performed some kind of ritual on the ground, making fireflys appear which magically stopped the loose heat shield from coming off on re-entry? This really felt out of place and unnecessary, so it loses a full mark.

7/10

Glad you gave it a crack! The fireflies were present on the other missions too, it was later found by Gus G (I think) to be ice falling off the craft and the sun shining through it that gave off the impression of fireflies.

Yeah has a bit of a 70’s feel to it, I feel Jacobs Ladder has a similar feel!

Good to see them all trying to out macho each other - behind the scenes with the wives and how a lot of it was all just knee jerk reactions to the Soviet’s. Shows how it was all a lot less perfect than the media image was made out to be.

I researched the fireflies thing afterwards and saw that it was an actual thing. I have no idea why they interlaced that scene with the aboriginal ritual by the fire. If it was to suggest what I stated in my previous post then its an insult to the the film and the viewer, something to remove in a directors cut!

Agree on the macho thing, these were real proper men of men! the likes of which we will never see thanks to 3rd wave feminism outlawing such a man. Still we are starting to see a backlash on that now, even from women although this is a another thread (and a long one at that).

I loved the scene where the projector was not plugged it. Perhaps suggested how cowboy the Americans were compared to the ultra efficient and ahead of the game soviets.

Thanks for the recommendation mate, I am ashamed to say I did not realise this film existed. There are also several nods to this movie in Armageddon!

Serenity

Crap trailer - excellent film

I'm not often fooled by films, but this one had me for quite a while (bit difficult to say more without giving it all away)

Hmmm I like the sound of this movie, however the reviews are making me think I may regret it.

However, I may proceed on the Jules S recommendation if you accept that your pants are coming of should it turn out to be crap

End Game: 7/10

Saw this opening night. It was good, very good. But always will be viewed against Infinity War which for me was a solid 9/10.

I feel they took the “easy” way out with the story, it felt disjointed in many places with odd editing and a muddled big fight scene. Very strange Fury only got a cameo eyebrow raise too..

Left me a tad flat by comparison.
