I have some issues with this story;

Presumably it was a DSG car, as he says 'it's not stopping at neutral', an odd thing to say if it had a manual gearbox. Either way, neutral is something you select with the lever.

Secondly, pressing the stop start button would do nothing other than turn on stop/start, again, I assume they mean the engine start button, pressing it does nothing, you'd have to hold it in to switch the engine off.

The investigation seems to have found no evidence of the faults described by the driver, yet the inquest found it was not suicide... What?

There is evidence that the throttle pedal was fully depressed and then released in the 5 seconds leading up to the crash, the throttle pedal would not move at all if cruise control was engaged, so that is evidence of driver input.

It's a bizarre story.

It's not right and I've read the story a load of times.

It's a suicide. The car would tell them everything (Hence they know the accelerator was fully depressed).

100% sure it was a suicide, but a strange one at that.

As said, evidence shows that the throttle pedal was pressed to the floor, if he was "stuck" in cruise then the pedal wouldn't be pressed at all.

With a DSG box, the shifter is just an electronic control isn't it? so if you were going at 119mph, would it actually do anything?

Either way you can switch the ignition off so unless it was running in its own oil then the engine would turn off.

And the handbrake would work still, whether it was mechanical or electronic, if it was electronic they work on all four wheels and are absolutely savage 😂

It also says they detected steering input which to me suggests he was aiming for something rather than aiming away from something, from the way they describe it.

Agree with that, which they also said tallied with a dash cam from a truck in the other direction - the car swerved from lane 2 to the layby, where there was a parked truck - why would you aim for 44T of stationary vehicle if it wasn't suicide?

Ridiculous really, trying to blame a fault on the car as they'll always find out stuff that will rule out what the driver said, yes I understand why he did that though. Does it say if it was auto or manual?

I would have gotten on the roof of car, and at the very last moment before impact simply step off the back of car. Same as riding a seat out of a skyscraper and jumping off it before hitting the ground.

Doesn't mention the gearbox specifically but the article says he said 'it won't stop at neutral' which is a really odd thing to say.

Also, assuming his brakes hadn't also failed in some strange coincidence, you could stop a car from 100+ mph regardless of if it was stuck in gear and with the throttle stuck open, surely?

May have possibly been the case, but I find it hard to believe he didn't check this at some point over the 8 minutes.

It also still means a failure of the gear selection even if that did take place.

Suicide or he was already speeding and thought he'd seen Police so made the call to make up the story that the car was faulty prior to him being pulled.

That's happened once before, guy rang it in ooh my car's faulty, turned out to be an elaborate way to try and avoid the speeding fine. Fairly sure he crashed quite well as well.

This one is a complete load of shit, in any car I've ever been in you can stop with the brakes, the end. Cruise or no cruise, fault or no fault.

So either a simple lie and he crashed by accident or something deliberate, perhaps with the motive to implicate the car and not him for whatever bullshit reason.

Police haven't got the best record at the minute after the gay murders.

Finding a chap dead with a suicide note saying he killed himself because of guilt of murdering someone else, but don't blame the guy he was with last night, he wasn't anything to do with it....and the police just went, ok yeah sounds legit.

Barely any modern auto cars have any mechanical interface between the driver and gearbox...

My ML shit its pants because the selector failed and there was no physical way to shift out of park, fucking night mare!
