Only me online, midday on a weekday, unheard of in the past.
What is going to happen to the CS forum? Are we still blaming facebook?

People are scared of change. Website doesn't want to change, and will be left behind.

Will review the situation when the next thread about it arises in few months.

Such little activity people just want to argue about everything ATM, probably for company.

I think corsa B is just not very popular now, not like people buy them unless they are enthusiastic about them, and tbh they aren't really a sports car or anything other than a cheap hatchback so can't see there being many fans, only a few gsi/sri/sport lovers. Even then, you'd buy a classic VW

Could have worked easily. The member base was already here with a decent variety of cars to attract new members. There's pistonheads forums as big competition though, although that place is full of some right bellends!

The Facebook groups are always busy for the B, the younger generation has grown up with social media rather than forums so don't bother with them IMO.

If you want an old hatchback to tinker with or relive your younger years then a B is a lot cheaper than a classic VW unless you want a wanky MK3 golf or a 1.8 Corrado.

That place is full of self righteous wankers. Awful forum full of sub forums aswell. Too much going on.

My mate recently asked why I stick around on a corsa forum when I don't have a corsa. Had to explain that hardly anyone on here actually owns a corsa and we stick around because its actually a decent general car/house/talking bollocks forum.

Pre twitter/facebook/instagram, forums were the only way to socialize online, the original social media

Forums don't offer a particularly user friendly mobile interface and particularly older generations and millenials aren't going to zoom in and scroll around an unmobile friendly site when they are now used to slick mobile optimised ui.

Forums aren't dead, look at stackexchange or spiceworks, forums that haven't slowed, primarily because they are so specialist and the likes of fb haven't managed to replicate their usp (also because their area of specialism has increased so the requirement has stayed)

An old corsa however isn't that specific, forget about the social aspect as that's more than covered with facebook groups.

What's the answer though ? What would increase traffic and make it like the site it was back in the mid to late 2000s where the daily morning thread could see 20 pages by the afternoon and still end up on the second page....

Answering my own question a little bit, was thinking I recently joined a few different facebook groups for my cars. Why did I do that rather than go and find the forum and register? Because it was easier on my phone to search bmw group and hit join than search google and zoom in and find join and go through that process

Searching for content on a facebook group is a total ballache however, and you have to wade through so much shit as there is no categorisation.

So....Itd be interesting if it'd be possible to let users join a facebook group which creates an account on a forum. Their posts could then be categorized into the existing forum subforums. Those who prefer the forum interface still have it, advanced search etc. Those who'd want to use facebook (or twitter or whatever) see a stream of all posts.

It's about delivering the message through multiple media formats, however consolidating multiple data streams to one single database

Or something

You can use Facebook to authenticate forum users but ultimately if its more work than using Facebook then most younger people aren't going to bother.

I have my theories on it and also a list of what I might do and I've discussed it at length so I'm not really interested in going over again.

I'm sure other people will have ideas or will question my motivation or skills but really, its difficult and anyone on here suggests that a simple this or that would have saved CS from certain doom is talking shit.

Never once refused an offer of help from anyone so if you're thinking of saying years later that it was easy and you knew what to do then you're a bit late to that party.

Do also think its rather fucking cheeky that people who have taken in the piss and alienated users in the past have the sheer fucking audacity to have any problem with the fact the site is now not busy. You either help by contributing or you're a cunt and put people off and my memory is obviously doing OK if I appear to object to complaints from people who were never in it for the long game.

not being critical Ian, just a blunt look at the current reality that facebook has become the first place people go to for social interaction and that forums need to evolve.

Certainly agree asking anymore from users than to authenticate then you're just going to disinterest the majority of people signing up.

However some clever api with a built in evolving self-truthing neural network (utilizing current neuroevolution models) to categorize threads into the existing cs forum, including insta/twitter hashtags etc would be amazing. Reality is facebook will never make the required info public as that'd be used to direct users away from their site.

Like I say, got some ideas but I tend not to talk about them these days as its clear that most of it is difficult to prioritise and I don't have the same amount of time at a computer as I did in previous years.

Facebook is shit for car conversation, I've said that before.

I'm also not convinced it'll be around forever or indeed needs to be the defacto model under which forum conversations evolve.

That's one thing i also don't agree with, i don't mind if its say a seasoned user like Barnes or DaveyLC or someone who dishes it out, but always found it a bit out of order when a youngster with their first car signs up and gets shit off middle aged men about their choice of heater control knob colour etc

This is probably the only forum left that I can use without having to ender a 50 digit password that requires 7 different special characters and alternative upper and lower case which needs to be changed every 3.5 days..

If Ians dies in a land rover dismantling related accident, will the site just disappear?

Have you left it to anyone in your will?

ClioSport is still very active.

It genuinely saddens me that this website has lost so much traffic. We've lost a lot of the seasoned members to women and it's too easy to just communicate via Facebook than come on here and do a FAO post

I've spent 16 years here and I'm a bit lost now this site is quiet. Good thing the offline side of things is still busy though with Combe this weekend
