I don't suppose anyone knows if the Renault K9K 1.5dci engines are all basically the same whether or not they are in a Nissan or a Renault? I've been offered a 2010 face-lift Qashqai for 3k, its only done 80k but the engine is knocking its nuts off due to a Halfords spanner monkey not refitting the oil filler cap after a service and much of the oil has decided it prefers life lining the engine bay.

I can source a good Renault K9K engine for under 500 so it would be an absolute steal and a great car for the misses but I've got a mate telling me the Renault lump is no good.

Different sensors, different engine managements.
Well the Renault and nissans have different engine management systems anyway but the actual engine itself is the same.
Type 1 is just the early k9k with the basic engine management. Type two is when it gets complicated with multiplex sensors and stuff.

Oil cap being in a different place?

Or do you mean how come do the two cars of similar model and year have different versions?

2007

2008

2010 (facelift, same as yours)

Another 2010 facelift (rear damage 61k, might be worth a look as a full car)

2012 - cap in the middle same as the Ebay one -

Did you end up getting an ID off the Ebay one? Looks too new.

Yeah the rocker cover and intake/boost pipes are all different.

I havent got the engine yet but Tig looked at the photo abs straight away said "that's a different engine".

I think you're right Ian it's a later car and they have just assumed it's right for a 2010 and onwards car.

Apparently its right on the change over so its the version without the DPF that the car has got and the engine I've bought has got the DPF.
