I really like it ! But think I prefer the Irmscher one myself

Not seen one of these for sale before though

I think they look much better not smoothed in! More factory if that makes sense

Much prefer the Steinmetz one to the irmscher one personally, Iv been to a couple of body shops last week to ask about having one smoothed and they were not not keen due to the amount of bodge they would have to use and would end up cracking or point blank refuse to do it.

So trying to make my mind up whether i like them fitted un smoothed

The fit on them is fantastic - its not like it will have gaps

Always loved these splitters, my favourite mod for a corsa b.

Looks miles better unsmoothed imo.

I like both, depends on the car if is slammed Id have it Un smoothed, or you're just going to end up cracking it

Jacko it was your car I seen a while ago that made me want one of these splitters,I do really like them smoothed but like I said the body shops iv been to are not keen at all in doing it.

My car would be sitting around the same height as Jackos.

Bodyshops using the correct plastic structural bond and plastic filler will quarantee it not too crack ever!

Height etc does not matter! Back street garages using f/glass and regular filler (not for use on plastics) will be scared to do it.

Personally I'd be dubious about taking my car to such a body shop!

I called into a highly professional bodyshop last Friday who specialise in Lotus and do lots of work for lambourgini and classic car restoration who are renown for there quality of work so i had i look at a paint job on a classic motor that was in being done which was costing the owner 5k and it had been back to bare metal and to be honest i could see why it would cost that because the paint work was absolutely flawless the best paint work iv ever seen that inclues factory paint so thought if anyone could do it they could but.....

I showed them the bumper and explained what i would like doing and they said it would cost me a fortune for them to do it for how long it would take to just to get smooth perfect which would take them 2 days just to do that and that's before paint.

So i asked how much would i would be looking at just to paint the bumper and splitter and fit it to the bumper and that was going to cost £360 just for that

There is one more body shop im going to call into this week and see what they say but im not holding my breath because iv spoke to the owner once before and its either his way or no way

Smoothed yes, otherwise it sticks out like a sore thumb IMO!!

£360 seems a reasonable price for that imo, wont find it too much cheaper anywhere that is a half decent bodyshop anyway

Cheers bud. Not a clue tbh. I have a feeling it was plastic welded. It was a while back though so not 100%sure

Oh and mine was -60mm and the front did scrape a little but not too bad when you get used to it

Are you on 17" wheels? I'm down 60mil on 16" wheels with 40 profile tyres and think your front is a touch lower.

Was on 16" with 40 tyres too. Scraped in the arches more than anything tbh.
And tbh i thought the shocks had collapsed so wouldn't be surprised if it was slightly lower!

Called into another bodyshop today that does a lot of smoothing and customizing and they said they can do it but it would be done with fiberglass. is this alright if done properly or is it a no no?

He was honest and says there is always a chance of it cracking if it got caught on a kerb or speed bump but always guarantees he work so if it ever did crack they would sort it.

All bodyshops are going to have their own way of working on these type of things, alot of bodyshops won't even touch jobs like this.

It will need a certain dagree of fiberglass, but not to fix it to the bumper. It was bonding from behind, then plastic welding the join on the front to make it strong and secure - then theres no risk of cracking if theres any movement or flex in the bumper. Then it was fibreglass behind it to make it rock solid, then someone would use a layer of fibreglass on the front join to give a bass layer to do the filler work on and get it nice and smooth.

The splitter is made from PU RIM and some places have said its not really plastic weld able still waiting to hear from one body shop that said they would need to take it to proper place that can weld any type of plastic but they are dragging there heels
