What ever you go for make sure it supports 2.5k resolutions or more.. Nothing worse than a massive display that can only do 1080p while you sit there nearly getting poked in the eye by pixels!
When I was in the market for a display I opted for a 30" Apple Cinema display, it looks super sexy and the image is crisp, under windows I'm running @ 2560 x 1600 and its loverrrllyyy..

They do look good, but they're a bit long in the tooth now to be spending that sort of cash on! I'm currently using a 23" display with a 1920x1080 resolution and I think it's pretty reasonable - you can obviously do better but it's a decent compromise

Yeah 22/23" is about as big as you'd want to go for 1080p if you're going to sit right in front of it..
I'm not a big fan of multiple displays so one huge high-res display is preferable for me but some people love to pretend they are in the matrix/minority report with loads of displays

2 high res displays is better btw. 2 x 1920 displays is still better than one bigger higher res one.

Speaking of Laravel, i'm looking at it for a new project - can you recommend any decent books or resources? Laracast seems to get a lot of mentions an doesn't seem too bad at £50 for a years membership.

Saying that, i found using using a 30" Apple Cinema display in a studio for years really naffed me off especially with having to constantly resize windows to get the layout i needed; i find it a lot easier to spread the workspace over multiple monitors.

I just used the documentation on Laravel's website - seemed more than adequate when I was getting started. I've watched a few of the free videos on Laracasts and the guy behind it really knows his stuff; but when I wanted to start doing things 'properly' I found this guy's website really useful:

Tbh I get horrendous pains in my hand using a mouse for too long so I use a wacom bamboo at work instead. Much much better.

Sometimes I like to live on the edge and just take a USB keyboard over to a remotely located server and see if I can do everything without the mouse haha. Ncpa.cpl ftw

You realise that the pixel density on your 30" display at 2560 x 1600 is actually lower than a 21.5" display at 1920 x 1080? You just have more screen real estate.

Ive got a pair of Iiyama 24" off my MBP, also get yourself a pair of Ergotron mounts as there awesome!
P.S i use the magic mouse and think its ace! especially for scrolling!
