Hi.
Does anyone on here hold a shotgun/ firearms license?
I have just applied for my coterminous license - mainly for clay, pigeon, rough shooting.

Here too. Easy to get unless you've been a naughty boy.

Got your eye on anything yet?

I've already put a deposit on a bettensolli(sp) over under pending my application goes through smoothly.
A bit hasty seeing as I have never fired anything more than an air rifle.

I'm off to a local clay ground/ club on Sunday.
What are they like? Generally cliquey?

I went to a clay shoot for a stag do the other year, thinking it will be pretty shit and aimed at toffs.

One of the best days out I have had, easy to get used to and ended up being pretty good at it

Go on skeet/DTL/Ball Trap/Olympic and say it's easy...

That's not to say I'm any good but what you do on a stag/introductory/corporate doesn't represent the whiles sport.

Just got back from clay shooting.
Was a great day, I'm not actually a bad shot - considering I've never shot a shotgun.
I borrowed a 26.5" browning a1 sporter, which was an absolute animal... Easily the loudest gun at the ground.
First 5 stands hit 3out of 50 clays, last 5 stands hit 48 out of 50.

Good results. 26.5" is short, was it a semi auto?

Very short, most are 28 minimum, mines a 30. Did you try shoot anything else?

Mine is 28 iirc but my chokes are extenders not internal so it's more like 29" with them in. I prefer 30" or below, 32 and above never feel balanced when swinging through.

Got 3 more spaces in my cabinet though so want a side by side to fill a slot.

That's the only one I shot last weekend.
I've got 3 on loan for this weekend;
An ATA over and under which looks the nuts and seems to fit me nicely.
An Escort magnum semi auto
And the bettensolli I have put a deposit on.

Gary - You know without a firearms cert your semi/ pump can only hold 3 rounds.

I know this

And do you mean AYA?

Haven't they got anything good to try? Browning, beretta and miroku are the 3 big ones to go for. Both for quality and resale value.

If your tight on budget then try Avalon guns. They'll do finance which makes a grands worth of gun easily accessible. That's what I did.

Don't buy new is my advice. Go to your local independent gun dealers - I got my 2 year old fully adjustable, Browning Ultra XTR for £1150 including choke set, cleaning set and gun slip; that's near enough £2,500 saving off new.

Also don't buy until you've tried everything and anything you can get your hands on.

2nd buying 2nd hand (Avalon do 2nd hand too)

I bought brand new and won't loose much on mine to be fair, hundred quid tops but I could have had something nicer for the same money.

ATA, as in ATA arms....
this is the one ill be trialing.
http://www.ataarms.com/EN/Detay/93/Sp-Series/Sp-Black/

seems they are pretty new to the uk market, but quality for price is amazing.
At the minute im looking more towards sub £1000 guns.. as its something i can realistically purchase outright once my license shows up.

The have everything in my local shop from browning, Beretta to weird stuff nobodys ever heard of.
Being in the heart of Devon it seems shootings a big sport around here lol.

Same here in the Peak District but once you get into it, you'll be surprised how many extra places there are tucked away in little villages.
