Got chance to work on my car for the first time in months so got stuck in and whipped the rear beam off, everything came off without a fight

Basically every part on the beam is going to be new

It's safe to say the beam bushes have had their day

The bushes put up a good fight on the way out but I won with fire, a big hammer and a hacksaw. Gave the beam a clean in the parts washer and a quick squirt of paint and fitted the spherical bearings, have to say there a awesome design and very well made and will make a big difference once on track.

Ran out of time so will finish building it back up tomorrow hopefully.

Didn't get much time today but got the beam built up with the hub and brake lines, trashed the shims fitting them as they needed modding for the bracket for the brake/sensor so I've ordered more.

All bolted back up, brake lines connected and studs fitted, can't go no further until shims turn up Monday.

Got bored on my break so drilled all the spot welds out of the spare wheel well and removed it, weighs 4 3/4kg's.

Made a 1.6mm alloy plate up to replace it and bonded and riveted it in. Alloy plate weighed 1 1/4kg's so a easy 3.5kg saving, it will all add up.

Decided to strip the front end down this afternoon as the engine leaks as does the water pump, so took it all out so I can clean up all the mess, re seal the engine and once ordered fit the gripper diff to the gearbox.

Had fun wheeling it back to my workshop from the main one on just a trolley jack

Had the crap job of de greasing all the caked on oil, sprayed de greaser foam on it and scrubbed it with a brush outside and hosed it off then put in the parts washer to finish it off

Got the grinder out next and cut the tops off the bushes and whacked them back through with a socket and hammer

Gave it a lick of paint and assembled it with the spherical bearing wishbones, rose jointed drop links, thicker whiteline anti roll bar and solid subframe mounts.

The other day I removed the rack and cleaned all the caked on oil and crap off it in the parts washer

While its off I'd be stupid not to update the bushes so ordered a set and will fit them when I'm back at work.

Yeah shame really as tbh they are very good learning tools as you can check others build threads to see how stuff is done or how it's fitted.

Slowly chipping away at it, mainly tarting up jobs but tbh they need doing. Drilled the spot welds and removed any soon to be un used brackets and studs.

Not much but saved nearly 0.5kg, it all adds up

Removed the plastic loom tidy as that will foul the catch tank I need to make. Gave the bay a good degrease and primed

Then a quick dust of paint to tidy it up again

Filled all the mounts with sikaflex to stiffen them up

Also stripped down all the old knuckles and hubs, decided to give them a sandblast to tidy them up a bit

Gave them a quick blast of paint ready to have the new bearings and studs fitted

And finally my pipe bender has turned up so I can get on with the cage soon

New hubs built up

Brakes re fitted

And test fit of wheels and no clearance issues with the caliper so no spacers needed thankfully

Today's job was to make some brake cooling ducts, used some 3" alloy tube, crushed one end and made up some lugs then put a swage on to stop the ducting pipe from popping off

Fitted up

Got it pointing at the centre of the disc which will cool the bell and push air up the curved vein discs

Needed to move the horns to allow space for the brake ducting so drilled out and rivnutted a new mount hole

Had to mod the horn brackets and one of the horns but all fitted up and nicely out of the way now

Also made a start on a removable slam panel, always annoyed me being fixed, my old track corsa b was made to be removable and it makes life so much easier getting at the engine and getting it in and out.
