50min is my best. i am 14 stone, as it seems no matter how much i do, i put weight on. need to seriously adjust my diet. i lost loads of weight last year, and I'm really not sure why I'm putting it back on.

For the half last year I did 6 weeks of 5k on a Tuesday, 10k on a Thursday, 10 miles (16k) on a Saturday/Sunday.

My times got massively better, but that might be more down to the regularity of getting out there

Ashby 20 mile road race done today, ridiculous heat considering training in wind and rain. 2:52:33 official time. Loved it upto 15 mile, fell apart at 16 onwards. Next target - London in 5 weeks.

Thats pretty good. I went on the running machine for the first time in ages today, did 3.5 miles in 45 mins. Still not sure how accurate the machine is, seems to me that I do further on it, thats 11 min miles, which is pretty awful

As Russ says! Better to be doing it, even slowly, than to do nothing.

Indeed, but I dont believe the machine though, should have a little jog on the road to test out.

I'm in decent shape, walk 6/7 miles or so a day while working, so think I should be doing less than 10 minute miles

Well to add to your doubts I struggle to run 5k on a treadmill much faster than about 27-28 mins. Find cardio much better to do outdoors than indoors. My breathing seems better.

That's decent Nic. Took me ages to get below 25min 5k.

I find treadmill ok, and definitely better than nothing, but two problems.

1. I get bored, and feel the strain more because of both that and the lack of fresh air hitting me
2. It sets the pace, not me, so when I run outside again I find myself much speeding up and down too much rather than running constant

I got back on it last week completing three 5k runs with the wife. We ran at a comfortable pace for her which is just over 29 mins.

I went out on my own tonight for a 5k and did it in 24:10. It was a bit windy, but to be fair it was at times behind me. I was feeling it by the end!

I know I'm only 4 runs getting back into it but it feels a lot like hard work. I just need to keep going out regularly and the time will tumble.

Just ran my first ever 10km in 53.58. That's with wind and rain and crossing a dual carriageway 4 times. Pretty chuffed with that.
