Cheers jumbo! Thing I'm worrying about is once I've finished I will be virtually dead and just wanting home/bed, won't want to be driving home. Hopefully the girlfriend will be there with water and a towel and to drive me back.

Wouldn't worry about that either! I was fine when I finished. Had a nice lunch and a shower. Felt really good tbh.

I was doing three runs a week at this point. A 10k at a comfy pace, then a quick 5k, not flat out but quicker pace than the 10k then a 10mile at a comfy pace. Never went over the 10mile when this close.

The two weeks before I did 10k, 5k, 10k.

Made sure my last run before race day was a 5k and did nothing three days before the big day.

Could/should have updated.

3rd Great North Run this weekend. 1:41:42 - best yet.

Was a bit disappointed as my training runs had set me up for a sub-1:40 but on a hot day and lots of people it wasn't to be.

Probably my last GNR for now. I'll go for a long distance cycle challenge next year I think.

Pleasingly however, I have gotten my 5k time down to 21 minutes. Considering 3 years ago I barely managed 29 minutes thats a big drop!

I think it's a really good time. To go sub-1hr 30mins takes a big effort, both in training and on the day.

Sub-1hr 40min next time?

My training told me a 1:40 would be possible, think the heat on the day just took it out of me a little.

As I say, may give half marathons a miss next year and go cycling instead. Won't give up the running though as I do enjoy clearing my head doing it

Cumbrian run in a week on Sunday. Going to struggle big time but I'm sure I can do the distance will just be slower than I'd hoped.

1hr 54 minutes, made up with that time considering lack of training and the weight I've put on lately!

surely that certificate thing means youve done it in 1:52:56 as thats your personal chip time. 1:54:26 is the total time from the start gun going off to you crossing the finish line

Yeah that's what I thought but I didn't know the chip time until this morning. Happy with either time in all honesty! I'm not far off 15 stone in weight.

Did my first 10k a few weeks back, suffered from not having decent shoes, pulled the bottom of my left door running down hill and had to slow down 1:19.44, no real training and an injury so I'm happy with that.

Bought myself some decent shoes to celebrate.

Just completed the 8 week couch to 5k program, was tough after not really running since school 16 years ago

Plan on running 5k a couple of times a week until January then start working on 10k

Been a couple months since I tried to run after getting a dodgy knee. Back at nearly 10 min mile average. Good thing is my knee doesn't hurt though.

I'm still trying to get out 2 - 3 times a week, difficult with the weather at the minute. Cold doesn't bother me and I don't even mind the rain if it starts once I'm out but I can't bring myself to go out and start a run when it's lashing down

It's the wind that puts me off. I'm going to try and get out and do a couple of 5ks a week and work back up to what I used to manage earlier in the year.
