So. My clutch slave had started to go. Was starting to cream in gear and struggle going into reverse.
Anyways. Got underneath it to replace the slave.... Guess what, water pumps been leaking. Badly.

So into the garage. Stripped down.
Front end off.
Radiator and aircon rad off with the surround.
Air intake
Alt belt
Supercharger and water pump all off
How it was after a couple hours.

Noticed the standard crank sensor o ring leak. So while I'm in there.

Noticed the alt belt was cracked with a couple bits missing too, so that will be done at the same time.
Also been noticing a little rattle from the chain recently. So thought while its in bits might aswel chuck a chain kit on there too.

Not really much to it to be honest.
Bottom pulley off

Removed the tensioner and side casing
Then removed the rocker box, and span it round to time it up properly.
Got it timed up. Released the tensioner then realised you have to remove the cam sprocket to remove the chain and guides properly.
Ball ache. Usually I would just sick a spanner or mole grips on the flat spot of the cam. No such luck here as the rockers cover it. Spat my dummy out and gave up for the night. Will continue tomorrow

Much better
R56 (turbo) will be abit quicker in standard forms but the r53 (supercharged) is much easyer to get power from. Cheaper to work on.
And personally I think handles better than the r56.
Plus the engines in the r56 are absolutely awful. Terrible pugeot engine that they use. Common for chains skipping. Coking up. Turbos going soft. Oil burning.
BMW even tell you they "should" use 1ltr every 1000 miles

Been away with the Mrs for a few days in the lakes. Had a lovely time. ( Stayed at The wild boar inn in Windermere for anyone that's interested. It's fantastic would suggest it to anyone)
Anyways. Got back home this afternoon and thought I'd crack on.

Anyways. Timed up as close as I could get but it turned out to of stretched pretty much a full tooth.... Chain pulled off. New chain and guides fitted. Tensioner refitted (I replaced this with a new one a few weeks back) chucked the side casing back on. Pulley. Alt tensioner. Rocker box and then cracked on getting the supercharger, water pump and all the gubbins back on.
Few pictures.
Side casing back on and together

Most of my new parts just in case anyone wants any part numbers.

New crank sensor o ring vs old one

Cleaned this mess up

Fitted the cranksensor

New water outlet gasket behind this ally adapter

Charger and new water pump back on

All hoses and intake system refitted, wired up and ready to bolt the front end on tomorrow

Couple hours fiddling tomorrow and its be all back together and rebled. Looking forward to driving it again now.

Finally got round to finishing this today.
Woke up and got straight to it.
Spent a while just going over everything just to make sure it's all tight and routed right and everything.
All good. So on with the front end.

Plugged everything in. Cranked it over with the coilpack to get the oil pressure up for the tensioner.
Plugged in the pack.
Fired it up.
Went first time. Idle levelled out. Perfect!
Filled with coolant. Ran it up to temperature. Got it bled up. Went for a drive.
Done and dusted.

Pulls a lot harder than before. Due to the timing being off previously.
Glad to be back in it.
