I have been noticing more and more recently cars driving about with the brake lights on constantly. Is this some kind of fail safe if the brake switch fails?

Apparently Insignia's won't start if both the brake lights fail, could just be a lot of cars with bad earths?

You can buy kits for your 3rd brake light to make it flash a few times before it comes on.

Some cars brake lights stay on when hot wired. Not sure how true it is but that's what I've been told anyways

Yeah I think it was since I remember them saying something like that, I've saw some cars with flashing brake lights in foggy conditions, I was following a Mercedes up the motorway at about 5am in March and their lights flashed, safety feature?

Sad part is my current car is a 106 and the brake lights are stuck on

But I think that's an unrelated issue and something to do with the rear lights being full of water.

The hazard light thing I've seen a lot recently on new cars, makes me feel like the car is actually preparing for an accident

Sisters boyfriends Corsa D work van had a 70mph limiter. If he took the fuse out for it the brake lights would he permanently on. After about 30 mins they'd turn off. But so would the dash so he'd have no idea how fast he was gong.

He is a right royal cock though.

Yea newer Astra VXR's all have flashing lights under hard braking don't they?

As for staying on - its 9/10 times a french car that i see with that issue. Also when they are indicating the whole light cluster is flashing too.

Whole light cluster flashing is bad earth.

I tell you what else insignias don't like, been baked when there painted! We've had 3 at work that once baked none of the dials worked. Like the dash had just died!

If you but a single filament bulb in one tail light on a new transit it completely cocks up ALL the electrics and leaves the brake lights stuck on when the headlights are turned on

That happens on a lot of cars, my brother put a single filament bulb in his 05 Fiesta and it did some crazy things like lighting up the dash when you brake.

The one I saw the other day which prompted this topic was on a Merc van though.
